Option for remote working but office days are required
The Client
Our Client, offers both Personal and Commercial Banking, providing a wide variety of financial products and services, including taking deposits and the provision of credit facilities and asset finance.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful Senior Credit Underwriter candidate will have experience in Asset Finance (underwriting both soft and hard asset applications). Underwriting limits will ideally range from £50K to £500K. The candidate will be required to analyse and assess credit proposals received from brokers. To liaise with colleagues to ensure we obtain all relevant information from brokers and work to service levels for excellent customer and broker service. The candidate will have the opportunity to challenge credit policies and suggest changes to policy and criteria.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· Guide, manage and coach the underwriters
· Monitor and ensure optimal resource allocation amongst the underwriters
· Assess credit applications from reviewing the proposal form, credit bureau searches, supporting information including bank statements, financial accounts and any other additional information required.
· Analyse affordability measures, financial crime risks and fraudulent applications, and credit backgrounds
· Provide industry regulatory support and understanding to the business in order to strengthen future frameworks
· Produce reports on trends, volumes and data relating to applications to senior management
· Adhere to credit policy, credit guidelines, service levels and his/her own delegated authority
· Make credit recommendations to the senior management and credit committee for proposals outside of their delegated authority
In depth understanding of financial statements and principles of lending Work with the sales team/brokers to maximise opportunity Assist the credit committee and COO to ensure the credit policy is current and provide recommendations on improvement and enhancements to credit policy and credit guidelines Assist the COO in automation of credit process and decisioning where applicable Good knowledge of regulatory matters including KYC processes
Working Relationships
Liaison with Credit Team, Operations & Compliance teams and other business areas. Interaction, when required, with UK brokers to manage and improve relationships.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
At least 3-5 years proven experience working in a credit role within the financial services industry or specific asset finance experience Understand the relevant UK Regulatory requirements relating to the provision of credit facilities in these jurisdictions Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential as this role will involve influencing at all levels Excellent organisational and communication skills Good verbal and numerical skills Ability to work under pressure. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages Planning and organisational skills Active listening and questioning skills Interpersonal skills to allow ability to maintain relationships Work produced to high quality standards Professional detailed conscientious approach to work
