JR Senior Associate; Authorisations; Debt & Lending Case Teams

The Role

Working within the Authorisations Division, you will have the opportunity to become an experienced, professional Financial Services Supervisor.

We are now looking for several talented, motivated and service focused individuals to join two teams in the Credit and Lending Department. We are a diverse and inclusive team and we assess applications for authorisation and firms seeking to vary permission.

Team one is looking for individuals with debt (advice/collections) and mortgage lending experience (retail lenders, non-bank lenders, third party administrators, lifetime providers).

Team two is looking for individuals with retail lending experience such as from high cost credit, peer to peer and/or personal loans and credit cards.

What does the role involve? What are the key responsibilities?

  • Assessing a varied caseload of ongoing applications at different stages and levels of complexity for authorisation to make confident, consistent and timely regulatory decisions and judgements against our threshold conditions, based upon accurate consideration of all relevant factors, and in adherence to agreed service levels.
  • Leading strategies to deal with complex or novel firm issues, recommending the most appropriate course of action.
  • Providing critical thinking relating to your sector and helping to build the skills and knowledge of your colleagues.
  • Leading meetings with firms, educating them on their regulatory responsibilities and delivering difficult messages constructively and effectively.
  • Proactively building excellent networks and relationships to facilitate understanding of risks and issues in the sectors and sharing knowledge to achieve good regulatory outcomes.
  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting colleagues in technical knowledge and interactions with firms/other stakeholders.
  • Role modelling the FCA's Values and Core Capabilities.
  • Confidently leading internal and external meetings and presenting to FCA and firms' senior management.
  • Proactively and efficiently managing a varied portfolio of work, whilst leading continuous improvement initiatives through applying basic project management skills.
  • Working collaboratively, coaching and mentoring colleagues in technical knowledge and interactions with firms/other stakeholders.

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum

We're a signatory to the Government's Disability Confident scheme.   • Experience of the retail lending sector and in particular one or more of debt advice and collections, mortgage lenders, high cost credit, peer to peer and/or personal loans and credit cards.
  • Experience of managing portfolios or casework (this could have been in a variety of environments for example regulatory, financial services, civil service, legal, project and/or relationship management).
  • Experience of analysing information and large volumes of data, identifying key risks, making judgements and presenting key issues and recommendations to management.

Essential

  • Strong report writing, communication and reviewing skills, with an ability to articulate complex issues concisely.
  • Proven experience of building and managing relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management (both internal and externally).
  • Experience of making timely risk-based decisions with clear justification and putting an appropriate strategy in place to manage cases.
  • A practical understanding of the regulatory framework and understanding of conduct risk, consumer behaviour and the drivers of poor consumer outcomes.
  • Ability to solve complex issues and make timely risk-based decisions with clear justification and putting an appropriate strategy in place to manage cases.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - ability to influence internal and external stakeholders including senior management at both firms and the FCA.
  • Proven organisational ability - the ability to balance and manage a variety of competing tasks and issues.
  • A strong team player with the ability to be flexible and pragmatic, as well as coach and mentor others.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, positively embracing new approaches and role modelling this behaviour to encourage others.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise to meet service standards, targets and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and results driven, able to work independently.
  • Proven experience of delivering continuous improvement through applying basic project management skills and delivering through others.
  • Experience in coaching.

Desirable

  • Relevant and recent experience working within, regulating and/or working in policy or compliance related roles for debt, mortgage and/or retail lending firms.

  • The salary range will be £46,000 to £60,000 plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension
