Sales Ledger and Credit Control Assistant

Colchester Institute is looking for a Sales Ledger and Credit Control Assistant to assist with the credit control function and routines of the sales ledger and treasury team.

You will have a good standard of general education, to include GCSE 9-4 or equivalent in English and Maths.

You will have demonstrable experience of credit control duties, good experience of Excel spreadsheets and formula and experience of cash handling in a business finance environment.

You will be required to assist with the credit control function and routines of the sales ledger and treasury team.


  • To assist with all aspects of the sales ledger, maintaining up to date records, accounting for monies received and issuing invoices and credit notes as required in accordance with FRAP guidelines.
  • Issue timely reminder letters and initiate debt collection activities in order to safeguard invoiced amounts.
  • To assist Credit Controller with month end procedures and assist with preparation of management report summaries.
  • To deal tactfully and sensitively with queries arising from colleagues, students and external customers.
  • To work with colleagues to ensure suitable maintenance of student details in EBS system to allow for agreement with OA records.
  • Assist with monthly internal control processes.
  • To process cash and cheques paid in through the finance till and associated reception duties on a rotational basis.

  • Demonstrable experience of credit control duties.
  • Good experience of Excel spreadsheets and formula.
  • 9-4 grade GCSE passes (or equivalent) required in Mathematics and English.
  • AAT level 2 or equivalent desirable
  • Experience of cash handling in a business finance environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of cash / banking procedures.
  • Experience of using a finance system.
  • An awareness of the importance of Equality and Diversity.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe learning environment.
  • Excellent telephone manner and ability to deal with difficult situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications.
  • Ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use initiative within defined boundaries.
  • Willingness to learn other duties and a \'can do\' attitude to assist others.
  • Good team player and ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Able to cope with demanding workloads and demonstrate a degree of flexibility in busy periods.
  • Able to follow and enforce financial guidelines.
