We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Team Leader or an experienced Senior Legal Cashier with management experience looking to step into a more challenging management role, to join our Finance - Matter Ledger team in Cardiff.

The Role

As a Team Leader you will lead, support, engage, motivate, and challenge a team of legal cashiers and finance assistants within the Matter Ledger team to ensure the processing of financial transactions on client files, as requested by case handlers, runs smoothly, helping the firm to deliver high levels of client service. You will also work with the Senior Team Leader to review processes constantly seeking improvements, as well as deputizing when required.

Your primary duty is:

To process and oversee financial transactions relating to client files in an accurate and timely manner whilst ensuring strict adherence to SRA Accounts Rules, Anti Money Laundering Regulations, and HMRC regulations. This will be across 7 companies including ABS's in a high-volume fast-paced environment where processing volumes are an average of 19,000 a month.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

To manage the team workload daily to ensure that they meet performance targets which are in accordance with agreed key performance indicators

To ensure that all work is carried out to the highest standard and in strict compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules

To develop, coach, and mentor team members

To build and maintain working relationships with our internal clients and colleagues


The team leader, as well as managing the team has a demanding workload of their own which includes:

Authorising payments to both office and client

Transaction processing includes payments, bills to clients, and credit notes and write-offs

Completing bank reconciliations daily

Ensure that all month-end tasks are completed by the team as well as completing your own tasks

Managing the processing of un-actioned cheques, ATE amendments, matching Client to Office Transfers, continually liaising with TPIs for remittances

Dealing with all ad hoc queries

To be a successful team Leader:

You will have

Excellent knowledge of and experience of working within the SRA Accounts Rules

Knowledge of Anti Money Laundering Regulations and relevant HMRC regulations (e.g. VAT on Disbursement rules)

A proven track record of working in a legal finance environment in a similar role

The flexibility to work outside normal office hours as may be required from time to time and be prepared to work in the office.

An ILFM qualification would be desirable
