The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust provides services to 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire, while also providing specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services, and children's intensive care to the wider area.

The Trust is made up of 6 locations with Southampton General Hospital being the largest, running specialist services, emergency, and critical care along with outpatient clinics, diagnostic and treatment work, surgery, research, education and training. This is a large and busy site.

We have a new role for a Credit Controller atSouthampton General Hospital (Tremona Road, Southampton, SO16 6YD) stating ASAP until the end of March 2022.

If you are not already on the bank you will need to be able to provide a reference covering a 6-month period of employment within the last 3 years.

The working hours are Monday - Friday 8.00 - 16.00, however there is possibly flexibility around the start and finish times if needed.

This role has the potential to be a combination of onsite and home based working due to Covid guidelines.

This is a band 3, the pay rate is £10.81 an hour.

The role involves:

  • Initiating and managing difficult communications with debtors including patients and their relatives, sometimes from overseas, as well as staff, with a view to the prompt settlement of debts; this could include repeat and follow up conversations and the monitoring of payment plans
  • Chasing overdue invoices via telephone, email and letter with responsibility for a range of agreed customers and accounts.
  • Assist the Financial Controller and Treasury Manager in ad hoc analysis, which may include designing or adapting spreadsheets.
  • Ensure the Customer accounts are kept up to date with follow up notes on debt collection activities.
  • Process cash receipts to ensure all balances are up to date.
  • Liaise with different divisions to ensure cash allocations are accounted for correctly.
  • Take payments from patients, regarding invoices, via online payment system.
  • Monitor personal and shared mailboxes
  • Handle incoming phone calls
  • Receive disputes of invoices and ensure correct departments are notified to ensure timely resolution

They are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous Credit controller experience and knowledge
  • Has knowledge of Finance systems (ERP) and ideally Oracle Fusion
  • Has strong MS Office skills especially Excel
  • Strong communication and admin skills.
  • Has the ability to have difficult conversations with debtors
  • Work to deadlines / targets.
  • Strong organisational skills and a high attention to detail.
